Algorithms and Methods

Definiens Developer XD provides a comprehensive range of algorithms for exploiting the wealth of information contained in biomedical images. It is optimized to work with Definiens Cognition Network Technology®. The unique hierarchical object network provides the essential underlying topological structure for users of the Developer XD algorithms to create new multidimensional image analysis applications.

Analyzing an image requires the detection of relevant biological structures. In order to automate the detection in even complex cases, semantic segmentation processes are needed to apply the necessary expert knowledge.

The Cognition Network Language allows users to formulate such procedures through an extensive alternation of segmentation and classification algorithms.

Starting in the beginning with rather generic segmentation steps which create pixel clusters, known as image objects, these primitive elements are then dynamically refined and optimized in various steps. This process allows for the accurate identification of specific objects of interest representing biological structures by correct shape and label. The hierarchical object network provides the necessary context and structure information needed for the different decision steps through the entire process.

In the Definiens Developer XD algorithm toolbox you will find a comprehensive set of algorithms for 2D and 3D segmentation, measurements, classifications, statistics and layer processing techniques allowing you to tackle even the most challenging image analysis problems.
